Transfer within U of M (Spring 2009)
Admission requirements for students transferring from within the University of Minnesota system (TC campus, Morris, Duluth or Crookston) to the College of Biological Sciences.
NOTE: For students applying for admission to the Fall 2009 semester and later, there are new application requirements.
For students applying for admission to the Spring 2009 semester, the application requirements are below.
At the time of application students must be in good academic standing (i.e., not on probation), and have completed 26 semester credits with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 and the following admission courses with at least C- grades:
- One semester of general chemistry with lab: Chem 1021 or an equivalent course from another institution*.
- One semester of calculus: Math 1271, Math 1281, Math 1371 or an equivalent course from another institution*. A Math 1142 equivalent course will be accepted for admission but it is not recommended as preparation for Calculus II.
Exceptions
Students applying with less than 26 semester credits completed must submit high school information and will be reviewed based on a combination of the transfer admission requirements and freshman admission requirements.
*Equivalent courses for chemistry and math can be found on the IT course equivalency Web site.
For students transferring with quarter-based courses, two quarters of chemistry with lab and two quarters of calculus are the required admission courses. Students with only two quarters of calculus must take Math 1272 or Math 1282 to complete their degree.

Fall semester -- March 1
Spring semester -- October 1
Students must complete a Change of College Form to the Office of the Registrar by the deadlines listed above. If the application is denied by the college due to missing admission requirements, or withdrawn by the applicant, a new Change of College Form must be submitted for admission for a future term. Forms are available in CBS Student Services or at One Stop Forms Online.
Graduation requirements and residency
Students must earn at least 30 semester credits at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities Campus. At least half of the upper division major coursework must be completed on the Twin Cities Campus and at least 15 of the last 30 credits earned must be completed on the Twin Cities Campus.
