Restoration and construction of labs, classrooms & housing
facilities (Fund #6318)
Already a magnet for intensive instruction and learning in biology, a new
campus plan will serve as a vanguard laboratory for research at the interface
of biology, the mathematical and physical sciences.
 |
Current laboratory, office and housing facilities
are inadequate to retain all research currently working at
Itasca, much less to attract new researchers. Current
facilities include 70 rustic buildings that have exceeded their
life expectancies. Reports document the wide range of
deteriorating conditions. |
| Several important labs and classrooms are in immediate danger
of being condemned. Should this occur, important programs
would have to be suspended. The loss of even a single
teaching or research building will seriously jeopardize our
current programs and limit CBS’s efforts to provide the
premiere undergraduate biology program in the country. In
addition, faculty looking to incubate new research ideas at
Itasca may need to look elsewhere. |
